The Journal is domiciled in the Department of Music of the Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly known as University of Ife), Ile Ife, Osun State, Nigeria

As the official voice of the Yorùbá experts that own the music, Iya Ilu privileges studies conducted in line with the emic approach based on its inherent advantage in relation to historiography, musicology, epistemology, composition, performance, technology, education, and functionality; for comparatively more correct interpretation and representation, which is believed to be achievable through publishing. The Journal publishes both hard and online versions, indexed by reputable bodies
